World building begins with a condition.
If we.
A conditional clause is more than just a grammatical rule. It's a way of considering alternatives and asking what could exist under different circumstances.
Every hypothesis opens a possible world, a space where forms, actions, and relationships can change.
We call this starting point “if we”: the idea of ourselves as a condition.
Action begins when we trust this hypothesis.
If we is a set and costume design studio founded by Giulia Bruschi and Riccardo Mainetti.
We help artistic events shape coherent scenarios by exploring the generative potential of new starting points.
Giulia Bruschi

She trained in Architecture at the Politecnico of Milan and in Set Design at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera.
She has collaborated with theatres in Italy and abroad, including the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse and the Krakow Opera.
Riccardo Mainetti

We
met at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, where they began a collaborative path rooted in a shared design necessity. They designed the set for Aroldo by Giuseppe Verdi for the opening of the Teatro Galli in Rimini, and for Aida at theTeatro Sociale in Como. In 2025, they won the RingAward - International Competition for Directing, Set and Costume Design in Music Theatre - in Graz with their set and costume design project for L'Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi.
This award marked a significant milestone in their career, confirming the strength of their shared design approach.
